Actually, no matter what the final result is, Novak Djokovic has sat firmly on the throne of the world No.1. Fans couldn’t help exclaiming: Novak Djokovic, Back!

No matter which court he plays, Serb turns it the home court. But today we won’t focus on analysing of performance on the court. I will show you some off-court stories to explain why fans love him so much.

Before the Nitto ATP Finals started, in October, a quick interview with famous tennis players initiated by ATP.

“Who is the funniest player?”

Novak Djokovic was part of this award absolutely!

Djokovic has talent at impersonating famous players’ classical behaviours with a little exaggeration. For example, he ever imitated Nadal’s inertial grip trousers and Nalbandian famous general belly vivid. More interestingly, Djokovic can freely imitate Federer’s high-headed, fluttering hair of the king’s spirit.

There is a short video released on YouTube. He was impersonating Maria Sharapova’s serve while Sharapova who burst out laughing is just on the opposite of the court. Where there’s him, there’s laughter and happiness. Players love him.

Fans love him cause he is an easy-going gentleman with first-class techniques in tennis. He interacts friendly with young volunteers every time he joined an event. He actively signs as many signatures as he can for fans. He advocates tennis and donats for charity.

The first time I watched his game on the spot was the China Open in 2016. He always achieved the good performance in Beijing. In an interview,  he called Beijing as his “Lucky Place”.  In fact, he monopolized the champion title from 2012 to 2015. Chinese media even gave him a nickname–The King of China Open. Because every time he entered the game, he won. Therefore, he has untold Chinese fans.

Did things always go smoothly like his continuous winning in Nitto ATP Finals or in China Open?  Not exactly.

Novak Djokovic had a quite different childhood from most of us. Serbia had two wars and a sanction embargo for 10 years. For a long period, people have to wait in line for bread and milk. This was Djokovic’s childhood. He has been through all of that so thatDjokovicunderstands more how valuable peace, dream, love and friendship are than others. Most importantly, what he experienced makes him appreciate everything he has now and also gives him an optimistic attitude for everything.

The miserable experience gave him steel wills. “Dare to dream”, he said in an interview about what your country and past taught you. “Just believe in your dreams. If you have dreams, don’t give up. Belief is the most common word to me, even more than hope.”

Djokovic is also a particularly patriotic young man and has deep feelings for his native Serbia. When he first entered the tennis world, including Australia, Germany and other countries have thrown an olive branch to the talented young man. Especially in 2007, his mother was interested in his invitation to become a British citizen and said that the change of nationality was not due to the loss of affection for Serbia, but to a better training environment for his younger brothers, which would be beneficial for him to get better sponsorship and development space in the future. But in the end, he did not give up his nationality in Serbia. And at the 2012 London Olympics, Djokovic became the standard bearer of the Serbia team.
